From dancing the tango in Buenos Aires to navigating the Drake Passage by boat,
adventure awaits our high school members.
With nearly 24 hours of sunlight to guide them,
30 Passport Club
members will explore the planet’s frozen frontier
—the Antarctic—during the Students on Ice program
this December.
Aboard the ice-class expedition vessel Polar Star, delegates will follow in the
paths of Sir Ernest
Shackleton, Admiral Byrd, and Roald Amundsen, as they
navigate from the tip of
South America to the heart of
the Antarctic Peninsula. Student
Ambassadors will venture over
the course of two weeks on a
journey that once took explorers
two years.
Participants will go ashore by Zodiac boat; spot penguins, seals, seabirds and
whales; and discover channels, icecaps, and varied islands. They’ll play a part
in the ongoing research being conducted by the international scientists who are
part of the expedition staff. Gaining a new understanding of the region, a
greater respect for our planet, and an increased awareness of the earth as a
global ecosystem, a student just might return home as an Ambassador of the
Antarctic.
