Singapore

  • Stroll through Chinatown’s four main districts – Kreta Ayer, Telok Ayer, Tanjog Pagar, and Bukit Pasoh. Pass old traditional mosques and cathedrals and take part in a classic Chinese tea ceremony in Singapore’s largest tea house.

  • Discover the rich Malay heritage in Singapore by learning about its film industry, fine dining, artistry (while taking part in a pottery class) and martial arts.

  • Visit Singapore’s largest mosque, the Sultan Mosque, which will give you an insight into Singapore’s Muslim community.

  • Experience Little India and browse the streets for ethnic garments, spices, and dancing exhibitions.

  • Interact with students of the same age at a local school. Learn about the educational system, as well as the economic role of Singapore.

  • Explore Singapore’s role in WWII and hear stories of the Battle of Pasir Panjang and the Defense of Malaya.

  • Journey through the main business district of Singapore at the Raffles Place.

  • Learn about the region’s turbulent history at the Singapore Discovery Center.

  • Take a cruise on a traditional Chinese bumboat.

  • View Singapore’s diverse nature and wildlife while visiting the Labrador Park.

  • Participate in a Night Safari and attempt to find over 1,000 nocturnal animals in over 40 acres of forest. Learn more about these animals in Creatures of the Night.

  • Explore a true Aboriginal village.

  • See the beautiful display produced by thousands of fireflies found in a mangrove swamp.

Malaysia

  • Visit a Malaysian village and learn about the lifestyle, language, history, and traditions.

  • Take part in activities such as dancing, batik printing, and cooking lessons.

  • Help the locals and participate in a community involvement program with a Malaysian orphanage.

  • Visit D'Paradise where you will find a large assortment of many of the world's most diverse fruits.

  • Go whitewater rafting on the Sungai Kampar River.

Thailand

  • Travel to the Bang Pa In Royal Palace and the Vimanmek Golden Teakwood Museum Palace to view the residences of former Thai Kings.

  • Visit the floating market of Damnoen Saduak.

  • Learn about Thailand’s historical role in WWII while visiting the Bridge over River Kwai and the Death Railway.

  • Observe the Mae Sa Elephant Training Camp and the Rural Thai Buffalo Training Camp at Baan Kwai Thai.

Age range – Participants must be in the 6th through 12th grade.

Academic credit – Students entering grade 9 through 12 can earn high school credit through the Washington School of World Studies. The cost for this credit is included in your tuition.
