Journey from Berlin to other Eastern European cities such as Prague and Krakow, finishing up your exploration in Warsaw, Poland. In Warsaw, participate in an international conference with Mary Eisenhower. Discuss global warming, international relations, and human rights with European students.
Berlin
- See Brandenburg Gate, one of the iconic symbols of Berlin
- View the World Time Clock in Alexander Square
- Visit Emperor William Memorial Church
- Spend an afternoon at Checkpoint Charlie
- Learn about the bygone era that saw Berlin was divided between two hostile nations
Prague
- Visit Prague Castle, said to be the largest ancient castle in the world
- Cross the Charles Bridge, lined with 30 baroque-style statues
- Learn some important words in the Czech language
Krakow
- Walk through the Kazimierz-the Jewish quarter where “Schindlers List” was filmed
- Explore Wawel Royal Castle, home of Polish kings from 1038 until 1596
Warsaw
- Take part in a series of workshops with European students
- Discuss worldwide issues such as global warming, WW II, international relations and world peace
- Visit Auschwitz and contemplate an unforgettable moment in European history
- Meet with Mary Eisenhower and present topics at an international conference
Age range — Participants must be in the 6th through 12th grade.
Program dates — Summer 2008 - July 4-14
Academic credit — Students entering grade 9 through 12 can earn high school credit through the Washington School of World Studies. The cost for this credit is included in your tuition.
